Name: Wild Rose Breweries Royal 100
Origin: Canada, Calgary
Style: IPA (5.0%)
Appearance: A clear, copper IPA, it pours with a creamy tan coloured head that has moderate retention.
Taste Aromas are of raisins, oranges and pine. It starts with a sweet malted flavour, with notes of caramel, sweet oranges and other fruity esters. A strong citrus bitterness takes over, with some subtler sour lemon-like notes. It finishes bitter and earthy.
Mouth Feel: A soft, medium bodied ale. It was quite filling, but that could have also been because it came in a 1 liter bomber.
Final Thoughts (3.0 out of 5): As far as IPA’s go its alright. I found that the flavours did not meld together or lend to each other giving it an awkward palette. It was not really sweet, bitter or malty and it really felt if something was missing from this IPA that would have taken it from mediocre to extraordinary. What that is… I am not sure.
