Beer Review – Sap Sucker Maple Porter

Name: Sap Sucker Maple Porter

Origin: Canada, Fernie BC

Style: Porter (5.5%)

Appearance: A dark ruby red porter, it pours with creamy tan coloured head. Decent head retention is noted.

Taste: I found notes of raisins, cocoa and berries in its aroma. The initial flavours start with a balanced fruity and maple sweetness. More of the porter-esque bitter chocolates and molasses like flavours become apparent shortly after. The molasses-like flavours become sweet towards the end, finishing with a refreshing flavour that I can only describe as (not exaggerating at all here) a coniferous forest after a rain shower. For anyone that has gone camping and has woken up to forest that had recently seen rain, you know exactly what I am talking about.

Mouth Feel: A very foamy beer, with a somewhat sharp mouth feel. It has a medium body and a refreshing finish that stirred up memories of childhood camping trips.

Final Thoughts (5 out of 5):  This is hands down the best maple beer I have ever tried in my life, and ranks as on of the top porters as well. Sap Sucker Maple Porter is mind blowingly delicious and refreshing in ways that I can only describe as, strangely enough, camping in paradise. Thanks Dave the Beer guy for recommending this one!
