Name: Rogue’s Morimoto Soba Ale
Origin: Oregon, USA
Style: Specialty/Flavoured Beer (Soba Ale)
Appearance: It pours with a soft, velvety head that shrinks away quickly, but leaves a cream top for the duration of the drink. Its colour is of dark coffee with a slight hint of redness when held to the light.
Taste: It has strong earthy smells, with some hints of bread. The taste is somewhat light and watery, though the bitter hops and grain notes shine through. This ale has negligible sweetness to it, mostly at the end finishing with a somewhat flat cola like flavour. Any notes of soba are drowned out by the bitterness of the hops used in this brew.
Mouth Feel: Like silk on the tongue, this is a very soft and creamy drink. No sharpness to it whatsoever and very refreshing to boot. The bitter aftertastes do linger at the back of the through for a while after each drink.
Final Thoughts (2.5 out of 5): This is a very easy drinking beer, though the flavour leaves a lot to be desired. The lack of noticeable soba flavours caused by the strong hops is disappointing.
