Beer Review – Odin’s Tipple

Name: Odin’s Tipple

Origin: Norway

Style: Imperial Stout (11%)

Appearance: This may be the blackest, thickest stout I have ever seen. It pours with no head at at all, utterly black in colour. When sloshed around the mug it creates a creamy tan head briefly but sticks to the sides of the glass reminding me of ink or oil.

Taste: Its overpowering aromas consist of molasses, berries and the smell of alcohol. The first sip of this thick stout hits my tongue with flavours of blackstrap molasses with very strong notes of sweet dark chocolate. There are some lighter notes of raisins buried deep in the background of this monster beer. Odin’s Tipple does very little in the way hiding its high ABV, leaving a hot alcoholic taste in every sip. It finishes with a molasses and bitter cocoa aftertaste that is surprisingly short lived.

Mouth Feel: Thick. Too thick. Its almost like I am trying to eat beer. A extremely heavy bodied stout, with a creamy mouth feel.

Final Thoughts (3.5 out of 5):  This beer beat me up. It was simply too much for me to handle in one sitting so I split it up over two nights. I felt like I was drinking a chocolate-molasses mead then a beer. Odin’s Tipple is hands down the thickest beer I have ever had in my entire life.
