Beer Review – Kostritzer Scwanarzbier

Name:  Kostritzer Scwanarzbier

Origin: Bad Kostritz, Germany

Style:  Dark Lager (German Dark)

Appearance:  This beer pours and looks a lot of like cola. It produces a very fizzy, medium head and is dark brown in appearance.

Taste:  It smells strongly sweet, like molasses. The taste is rich and bready reminding me of baked molasses cookies. There are some notes of bitter coffee in the background as the beer finishes.

Mouth Feel:   The beer has a creamy mouth feel to it, though it is still sharp on the tongue. The aftertaste is bitter, but short and enjoyable.

Final Thoughts (4 out of 5):  At this point in the trip it was the best beer I had tried and it cost my less the 80 cents Canadian for the pint. I have always preferred darker, richer tasting beers versus the lighter, more refreshing ones.
