Name: Ise Kadoya Imperial IPA
Origin: Japan
Style: Imperial IPA (9%)
Appearance: A dark, cloudy orange coloured ale. It pours with a big foamy head that has excellent retention, though it does shrink down to a more manageable size for drinking.
Taste: The aroma is strong and spicy, with notes of nutmeg, corriander and pine. The flavours are floral like incense, with a large variety of hop flavours. There are characteristics of sweet breads and toffee, spices such corriander, cinnamon, with notes of pine and citrus bitterness. The aftertaste is surprisingly short with piney flavours and sweet strong notes of oranges.
Mouth Feel: A soft, light bodied ale. There is no hotness in this even at 9% ABV.
Final Thoughts (5 out of 5): This beer uses 10 variety of hops, which include cascade, chinook, cluster, columbus, centenial, simcoe, amarillo, norther brewers, perle and willamette. These are added during the brewing process, at 120 different intervals making this a “120 minute” beer. Its flavours become more pronounced as it warms ever so slightly, making this one very fantastic ale that has to travel a very long time for me to enjoy.
