Beer Review – Howe Sound’s Pumpkin Eater

Name: Howe Sound’s Pumpkin Eater Ale

Origin: Canada, BC

Style: Pumpkin Ale (8%)

Appearance: A slightly fogged, toffee coloured ale, this beer pours with a nice soft medium head that shrinks down rapidly to a small, yet incredibly long lasting head.

Taste:  The aroma is spicy, smelling of cinnamon and nutmeg. There are some sweet malty and toffee notes in its aroma as well. This beer is rich in flavour, with a sweet, malted base. It has a spicy flavour and I can definitely pick out the nutmeg and clove used to spice this pumpkin ale. There is a subtle hint of pumpkin in the background, giving this beer a very ‘natural’ flavour. It finishes spicy and bitter, which lingers on the tongue.

Mouth Feel: This beer is very sharp, very carbonated and very hot. I can really pick out its high ABV from this. Pumpkin Eaton is a heavy bodied ale.

Final Thoughts (3.5out of 5): I love the taste of this beer, though its mouth fell is harsh for an ale. I am planning a pumpkin ale of my own for the next batch and I really wanted to try a commercial pumpkin ale to gauge my own brew.
