Beer Review – Hopworks Urban Breweries Secession Casacadian Dark Ale

Name: Hopworks Urban Breweries Secession Casacadian Dark Ale

Origin: Oregon, USA

Style: Dark Ale (6.5%)

Appearance: A dark, near black ale that when held to a light shows a gorgeous ruby colouring. It pours with a foamy, medium head that has decent retention value.

Taste: A hugely aromatic ale, most stemming from its hops; Sweet floral aromas and pine are the most dominant. The initial flavours are sweet and herbal, with some subtler earthy flavours. I also note some nuts and chocolate in the overall flavour. It becomes bitter towards the end with notes of cocoa and pine, but finishes surprisingly clean for such a hoppy beer.

Mouth Feel: A soft, creamy and refreshing dark ale.

Final Thoughts (4.5 out of 5): This is a fantastic tasting ale. The Cascadian breed of beers is something new too me, but something I will keep an eye out for in the future.
