Beer Review – Harvestoun Ola Dubh

Name: Harvestoun Ola Dubh (18 year cask)

Origin: Scotland

Style: Scotish Ale (8%)

Appearance: It pours with a small head with no retention. Its as black and as the darkest night preventing even direct light from penetrating it.

Taste: It has a fruity aroma that reminds me of figs and berries. There is some subtle odors of alcohol noted.  It has a rum-like palette, with figs and sweet apples as the dominate flavours. There are some notes of raisins as well. It finish with a linger bitter grapefruit aftertaste.

Mouth Feel: It has a rough mouth feel, due to the high ABV which is does not hide well. Sharp on the tongue, heavily carbonated and medium bodied.

Final Thoughts (4 out of 5): This 18 Year cask edition was bottled back in September 2009 and not cheap. For a 330ml bottle is was nearly $10.00, but seeing as it was limited edition and each bottle was uniquely signed, I feel it was worth the price. My bottle was number 80 for the 2009 release.
