Beer Review – Galway Hooker

From the tap of a pub in Galway, this was one of the best locally crafted beers Ireland had to offer.

Name: Galway Hooker IPA

Origin: Ireland, Galway

Style: IPA(4.4% ABV)

Appearance: This IPA is a crystal clear, dark gold colour. It poured with a gorgeous soft, foamy head but suffers from a low head retention that lets it dwindle to nothingness.

Taste: There in not much in the form of aroma, but what it lacks in odours it makes up for in its rich palette. The Galway Hooker IPA is a strongly bready, nutty ale. It has some lighter notes of caramel in the background giving it a pleasent sweetness. It finishes floral and with strong notes of its hops that linger on the tongue.

Mouth Feel: Surprisingly sharp on the tongue, though not overly filling as far as carbonation is concerned.

Final Thoughts (4.5 out of 5): An absolute treat compared to the standard fare found in the majority of Irish pubs. This was possibly the best beer I had in Ireland and one I highly recommend to anyone traveling abroad the Emerald Island.

One of the many gorgeous cliffs on the Irish sea.
