Beer Review – Dechutes Brewing presents Black Butte

Name: Black Butte (Dechutes Brewing)

Origin: USA, Oregon

Style: Porter (Imperial Porter, 10.5%)

Appearance: This specialty beer is sealed with wax just because its epic. It pours with a tan coloured, creamy head. A thick black-brown coloured porter, impenetrable to light. The head is short lived.

Taste: Molasses and soy sauce are noted in the aroma. A very potent palette with very strong flavours of molasses, black licorice and bitter cocoa. It has a hotness to it, which could be from the high ABV or the fact this beer is brewed with chiles to heighten the cocoa flavour. It finishes with a wicked dark chocolate like flavour that lingers.

Mouth Feel: A creamy, heavy bodied porter. Its has a hot mouth feel as well.

Final Thoughts (4.5 out of 5): This is a wicked double porter. The use of chiles really brings out the cocoa in the flavours. This is a relentless porter that made even me blush.

Big truck. Big beer. Tiny Brad.
