Name: Chimay Blue
Origin: Belgium
Style: Belgium Strong Ale (9%)
Appearance: This strong ale is a dark, cloudy brown colour that pours with a monstrously large head that shrinks down to a more manageable size and sticks around for the entire session.
Taste: The aroma is mostly of raisins and cinnamon. The flavour starts of with a hot, alcohol based taste, but this is overwhelmed by more enjoyable flavours. I can taste figs, raisins and raspberries, with some rum-like notes also. It ends in an astringent bitter pine-like finish and a final blast of the hot, alcohol taste just to remind you this is a very strong beer.
Mouth Feel: Sharp and heavily carbonated, with a hot mouth feel from its high ABV. Heavy bodied.
Final Thoughts (3.5 out of 5): An excellent strong beer, though I found it did not do a very good job of hiding its high ABV.
