Beer Review – Attila the Honey

Name: Begbie Brewing’s Attila the Honey

Origin BC, Canada

Style: Ale (5%)

Appearance: A crystal clear, copper coloured ale, it pours with basically no head at all.

Taste: The aroma is very light and difficult to distinguish; just the slightest notes of raisins. A toasted malty base, notes of grains and some light flavours of grassy hops. It becomes sweeter towards the end with honey and toffee-like flavours detected. There are some very subtle sour, lemon-like notes as well but these are hardly detectable. Overall a very light, clean drinking ale.

Mouth Feel: A very carbonated and filling ale. Medium body. Refreshing and easy drinking.

Final Thoughts (3.0 out of 5): A decent ale, though I would hope for more honey flavours in a honey ale.

Fun Fact: Honey, as an adjunct is nearly 100% fermentable. This means if used in the primary fermentation yeast can convert it entirely to alcohol and CO2, leaving very little honey character in the beer.
