I have probably rebuilt this website half a dozen times, never sure on what topic to focus on. Someone told me I needed to build it based on my passion, but in all truth I do not know what that really is. Actually I do not think I have much of a passion for anything. What I do know is that I like trying new things, variety and a healthy balance of work and play.
So in the end I decided to devote this blog and website to the three things that really interest me the most.
1) Fitness and nutrition
2) Japan and the study of its language
3) Beer and the art of home brewing
I realize that these three topics have very little, if nothing at all in common. Strangely enough these are the three hobbies I invest most of my free time in. I regularly practice fitness, study Japanese daily and experiment with new brews or sample new beers whenever I get the chance.
Why Fitness?
I guess I got into fitness when I got tired of being a fatty. Simply through regular exercise and better eating habits I managed to shed over 70lbs of unneeded body fat in half a year. I am a firm believer that a healthy lifestyle is needed -most- of the time, though not all of it.
Why Japan?
Because visiting my relatives in Newfoundland would have been more expensive. Seriously. I was planning a trip to the east coast and found that not only were domestic flights expensive, they were more expensive then flying to Japan. So I went to Japan instead. With nothing more then a backpack and a Japan Rail Pass I traveled around the country for around three weeks. The culture shock was enough for me to take a hiatus from my career and life and go back a few months later to live there for a summer. After being immersed in its language for those few months I now feel compelled to master Japanese.
Why Beer?
Beer is good. Beer is great. Beer is my vice. I consider myself a copious consumer connoisseur of beer in all of its forms. It is my goal in life to sample as many different types of beer I can before my liver finally gives out, I turn yellow and die.
