Beer Review – Hofbrauhaus Original
Posted by bradinator in Beer, Beer Tasting, Photography, Travel on June 24, 2010
Name: Hofbrauhaus Original
Origin: Germany
Style: German Pil (5.1%)
Appearance: Haufbrau’s bottled German pilsner is a dark yellow, nearly headless beer in appearance.
Taste: It has that common grassy, herbal aroma I expect from a pils. The beer is strongly herbal in flavour, with notes of bitter lettuce. There is some more subtle sour grapefruit-like flavours as well. The beer finishes bitter and citrusy, with a strong, yet short-lived aftertaste.
Mouth Feel: It is quite sharp on the tongue, but refreshing none the less.
Final Thoughts (2.5 out of 5): When I had the Hofbrauhaus Dark in Munich, Germany it was mind-blowingly good. There market Original is disappointingly too much like a standard lager. Maybe it is better while sitting in the beer garden in Munich, but that is probably something I will never know.

Beer Review – O’Hara’s Stout
Posted by bradinator in Beer, Beer Tasting, Photography, Travel on June 22, 2010
Name: O’Hara’s Stout
Origin: Ireland
Style: Dry Irish Stout (5%)
Appearance: A very obvious Guiness clone, pouring with the standard cascading black, ruby red beer. Large creamy head.
Taste: The aroma is almost non-existent. The taste is light, watery. There are some notes of dark chocolates, bitter coffees and even a slightly sour hint to it. The bitter coffee-esque aftertaste lingers.
Mouth Feel: Mouth fell is very soft, like liquid velvet. The body is very light and watery.
Final Thoughts (2.5 out of 5): By the time I got around to trying the microbrewed Guiness clone, I was so sick of this black beer it was all I could do not to hide my disappointment. There was over 25 microbrewed beers I had never seen before at this pub and I picked a Guiness wanna-be.
