Beer Review – Fischer Tradition Biere Blonde Speciale

Name: Fischer Tradition Biere Blonde Speciale

Origin: France

Style:  Pale Lager (6.0%)

Appearance:  A pale, yellow, clear coloured lager. It pours with a medium head, but suffers from poor retention.

Taste:  The aroma reminds me of a white wine. The initial tastes are slightly metallic, sour and grassy. There is also a definite note of white wine like tastes. The beer finishes ashy and bitter.

Mouth Feel: This beer has a thin body and is easy drinking.

Final Thoughts (2.5 out of 5): I love the 650ml swing top bottle, but the liquid that came in it leaves much to be desired.

A gorgeous lake an hour south-east of Jasper

Bottling Day – Molasses Porter and English Mild

Just a quick update on my last two home brews. I racked both of them today which required me to use every single bottle I own. I could not begin to tell you how many bottles I got, but its probably around 70 pints between the both of them.

Too be honest I kind of rush both of them and did not take an accurate measurement for the priming sugar. It should have worked out to about 1/2 cup of dextrose each, but I kind of eye-balled it.

Molasses Porter –

  • Born May 2, Secondary May 16th, Bottled May 29
  • Original Gravity: 1.056
  • Final Gravity: 1.020 (S-33 SafAle yeast sucks)
  • ABV: 4.7%, Calories/Pint: 250kcal
  • Cost per pint: ~$1.00-$1.25

English Mild –

  • Born May 8, Secondary May 16th, Bottled May 29
  • Original Gravity: 1.034
  • Final Gravity: 1.009 (S-04 SafAle yeast rocks)
  • ABV: 3.2%, Calories/Pint: 150kcal
  • Cost per pint: ~$0.70-$0.80

Finally I will give both 7-14 days to bottle condition. I have so much beer downstairs right now I do not even know what to do with it.

And here is the real crazy thing… I created an experimental cider today too. I used 2 gallons of cranberry cocktail, 1 can of frozen pineapple juice concentrate and topped it with water. Worst of all I just pitched this on top of the yeast cake from my molasses porter! What was I thinking!? Original gravity is 1.038 and god have mercy on my soul for this monstrosity I am creating.

Beer Review – Ise Kadoya Beer’s Triple Hop Pale Ale

Name: Ise Kadoya Beer’s Triple Hop Pale Ale

Origin: Japan, Ise-Shi

Style:  Pale Ale (5.0%)

Appearance:  This beers is incredibly foamy to the point that it is obviously over carbonated. As soon as I popped the top the head begin to crawl right from the bottle. The retention of this foamy head is excellent. The actual appearance of the beer is a cloudy, pale peach colour.

Taste:  The aroma of this beer is very powerful. It smells of incense like flowers. The palette of this beer is quite rich and floral. It starts sweet, with notes of honey and sugar. It finishes with a bitter and strongly hopped aftertaste that lingers.

Mouth Feel: Despite its obvious over carbonation this beer is both soft and non-filling. The beer itself leaves the mouth feeling coated.

Final Thoughts (3.5 out of 5): It would seem that I only picked out what was immediately wrong with this beer in my above review, but for all of its faults I actually really enjoyed its flavour. I love ales. I love hops. I love heavily hopped ales. And that is exactly what this beer is.

Willow Park Spirits got a shipment of micro-brews from the Japans! Its my goal to try them all.

Not sure where this temple was, but I am pretty sure it was near my old apartment in Himeji

Routine of the Day – Bran

Warm Up - 3 Rounds for Time

  • 10 Pullups
  • 30 Pushups
  • 30 Situps
  • 30 Squats

Routine of the Day #1 – Bran

For time complete 21-15-9 of

  • Push Press @ 60lbs
  • Burpees
  • Pullups

Finished in 3:47, breathless. I don’t like Fran, mainly because I don’t like Thrusters and I don’t own a proper barbell to do them. So Bran is the grainy replacement for Fran.

Routine # 2 - Complete the repetitions below, moving from each exercise after reaching failure for the set.

  • 100 Pullups
  • 200 Pushups (On pushup bars)
  • 300 Squats
  • 400 Chinnies

Finished in 20:19 (I was shooting for under 20 minutes…), using 14lbs training vest.
