This is what a work of art in progress looks like.
Ugly isn’t it?

It has been a long time since I have written a Japanese Journal entry. While I was in Europe I did not have many chances to practice Japanese.
My friend and I had a great time while traveling in Ireland, but because of the Iceland volcano eruption we had to stay longer. There were no flights out of Europe for a week.
We went to London by boat and train and stayed at a new friends house. We only got home on this weeks Friday night.
It was a long trip and I am very tired.
New Words —
While I was in..
Volcano
Eruption
Had to stay (Literally had to ‘exist’)
Until one week, for one week
Beer Review – Galway Hooker
Posted by bradinator in Beer, Beer Tasting, Photography on April 25, 2010
From the tap of a pub in Galway, this was one of the best locally crafted beers Ireland had to offer.
Name: Galway Hooker IPA
Origin: Ireland, Galway
Style: IPA(4.4% ABV)
Appearance: This IPA is a crystal clear, dark gold colour. It poured with a gorgeous soft, foamy head but suffers from a low head retention that lets it dwindle to nothingness.
Taste: There in not much in the form of aroma, but what it lacks in odours it makes up for in its rich palette. The Galway Hooker IPA is a strongly bready, nutty ale. It has some lighter notes of caramel in the background giving it a pleasent sweetness. It finishes floral and with strong notes of its hops that linger on the tongue.
Mouth Feel: Surprisingly sharp on the tongue, though not overly filling as far as carbonation is concerned.
Final Thoughts (4.5 out of 5): An absolute treat compared to the standard fare found in the majority of Irish pubs. This was possibly the best beer I had in Ireland and one I highly recommend to anyone traveling abroad the Emerald Island.
Routine of the Day – The Dubliner
Posted by bradinator in Fitness, Routines on April 25, 2010
If I had one sentence to describe Dublin it would be this: ‘You honestly can not go more then 12 hours without seeing someone expel one form or another of bodily fluid onto the street’.
Warm Up – 3 Rounds for Time
- 10 Pullups
- 20 Situps
- 30 Pushups
- 40 Squats
Finished in 4:52.
Routine of the Day - The Dubliner
Complete as many rounds as possible in 20 minutes of the following:
- 5 Handstand Pushups
- 10 Burpees
- 15 Ring Dips
Managed to get 9 rounds with 20 seconds to spare. My goal was 10, but doing doing Handstand Pushups and Ring dips together is a real shoulder killer.
Homebrew – Dark Tower Graff
Posted by bradinator in Beer, Experiments, Hobbies, Home Brewing on April 25, 2010
This is a hybrid of a cider and a stout. I was thinking of making both separately but stumbled onto this recipe on another forum and decided to give it a whirl.
Dark Tower Graff -
Ingredients -
- 3.75lbs of Pilsner LME
- 1lbs 120L Crystal Malt
- 0.25lbs Roasted Barely
- 0.25lbs Chocolate Malt
- 1 0z Target @ 45 minutes
- 1/2 oz Irish Moss @ 10 minutes
- 2 Gallons SunRype Pure Apple Juice
- 1 Package SafeAle US-05 (Rehydrated, pitched at 26c)
I steeped the grains for 20 minutes at around 70c. Following that I brought the grain tea to boil and added the LME and hops which were boiled for 45 minutes. When that was done it was moved to the fermenter where the cooled apple juice plus an additional 2.5 gallons of cooled water was added (bringing the temperature down rapidly). Finally I took the OG and pitched the yeast.
The Original Gravity was 1.052 which is exactly what I was aiming for. I am a little concerned about the yeast I pitched as it clumped together when I added it. I shouldn’t matter too much but I am going to keep an eye on it. The plan is 3 weeks in the primary, followed by a 7-14 days in the secondary to clean it up.
If all goes well I should have a tasty malted dark cider to enjoy by the end of May.
Oh and on a side note I finally got around to bottle my Apfelwien which finished at 0.996. I took a small sample taste and found it very tart and sharp which may require an extended bottle conditioning to mellow out.
