Beer Review – Cannery Breweries Wildfire Dark IPA

Name: Cannery Breweries Wildfire Dark IPA

Origin: BC, Canada

Style: IPA (6%)

Appearance: This IPA is a very dark copper colour, though it still shows much clarity when held to the light. It produces a very nice, medium head that had very great retention.

Taste: Floral, toasted bread-like odors noted. The taste is very heavily hopped giving it strong bitter floral flavours, followed by a mildly sweet caramel malt notes. There is some spiciness tasted as well, maybe pepper. Finishes bitter and citrusy, with a lingering aftertaste.

Mouth Feel:  Soft and foamy, no sharpness to it at all. This beer is also not very filling.

Final Thoughts (4 out of 5):  This is the first dark IPA I have ever seen and I have to admit I really enjoyed it. A great balance of bitter hops and sweet caramel malts make it an enjoyable all-round ale. This beer was named for the wildfires that ravaged BC Canada last summer and is dedicated to the firemen that battled it daily.
